Growing up as a child in Nigeria and moving to the UK with only my mother and four siblings, the transition between two different worlds left me feeling disadvantaged in the exposure and access I had to opportunities.
I constantly struggled at school and had to work much harder to achieve the same results as my peers and navigate my way through education because I lacked the necessary tools and mentorship. I was extremely shy, unable to voice my opinions and lacked confidence in my talents and strengths. However, I was still very ambitious and knew I was destined to do great things. During my time in school, I grew a passion for Medicine and the healthcare industry, so it became my goal to pursue that career. Though I knew what I wanted to do, I had no idea how to get there and lacked the necessary guidance. Because of this, my first application to medical school was rejected, and I started by taking a more achievable route by studying Biomedical Science. Though I ended up enjoying the course, Medicine remained at the forefront of my mind and was what I wanted to continue to pursue. I applied for the second time after graduating with a BSc in Biomedical Science, but unfortunately, my application was rejected the second time. I then went on to do an MRes degree in Biomedical Science, intending to apply for Medicine after I had completed the course, but was rejected for the third time.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Science and a Master of Research degree in Biomedical Science, I was unsure what to do next. At this point, I had already applied for Medicine 3 times and had been unsuccessful in receiving an offer. After being rejected so many times, I felt like I had no future or prospects. However, the exceptional leaders and mentors at iRxcruit gave me the support and resources I had been missing. I received first-class mentorship and guidance in completing my medical school application, from helping me fill out my UCAS application to assisting me in building a strong personal statement and preparing for my entrance exams and interviews. I received help from top professionals in my industry that I had never experienced before throughout my time at university. I met people willing to go the extra mile to help me fulfil my goals and aspirations.

The many rejections I experienced throughout my education had a negative impact on my confidence and mental health. But, with iRxcruit I was able to reach my full potential as they connected me to several initiatives while acting as a lay partner and patient advice liaison with the Imperial Healthcare Trust. As well as this, I started a new society at my university called ‘Medics to Be’, aimed at students aspiring to study Medicine, providing insight talks and offering volunteering and work experience opportunities working alongside accredited organisations like the House of Medics.

This initiative was inspired by iRxcruit because they had the same ethos as me and provided the support I wanted for myself and those in a similar position. Not only did iRxcruit make sure I had the most competitive medical school application, but they also trained me to develop and perfect the skills and talents I had acquired during my time at university and the experience I received.
With the help of iRxcruit, I made my fourth application to medical school and was accepted with an unconditional offer! iRxcruit made what seemed impossible to me possible and has done the same for countless others.
